Madison WI Criminal Defense Lawyers
Attorney Chris Van Wagner has tried hundreds of felony cases to successful verdicts in his twenty-plus years as an attorney. His trial cases have ranged from low-level theft offense all the way to first degree sexual assault, homicide and vehicular homicide. He has been three times awarded the Martin Hanson Advocates Prize for numerous homicide acquittals (not guilty verdicts), repeatedly awarded Super Lawyers of Wisconsin for his highly ethical legal practices, outstanding trial record, and high regard in the legal community. An invy league graduate of Cornell Law School, Attorney Van Wagner has handled matters in both rural and urban counties, not to mention the hardened criminal courtrooms of Chicago, Illinois and Trenton, New Jersey, winning cases he was expected to lose quickly.
Attorney Tracey Wood has handled well over 2,000 drunk driving cases in the state of Wisconsin, and numerous high profile criminal cases including a case that made the national headlines a few years ago, when her client was cleared of any wrongdoing in a wide-ranging and emboldened conspiracy scheme that actually stole missile launchers and military tanks from the Ft. McCoy military base in northern Wisconsin. All but one other defendant in that case went to federal prison for years. She has won an acquittal in several sexual assault cases, such as the recent one charging her client with sexual assault of an unconscious victim, and a previous one in which her client failed to prevent sexual assaults on a minor.
In addition to this solid and successful trial history, Chris and Tracey have also argued and won appeals to the state and federal courts.
Falsely Accused Of Sexual Assault
When a Prairie du Chien client was falsely accused of sexual assault of a minor child and repeated acts of sexual assault, he turned to Van Wagner & Wood for help, and Attorney Christopher Van Wagner represented him. The outcome: an outright acquittal on all counts of sexual assault.
That client was facing very serious charges of first-degree sexual assault of a minor child, a class B felony in Wisconsin. The sexual assault defense by Attorney Chris Van Wagner went up against evidence that the DA claimed was overwhelming and would prove sexual assault beyond a reasonable doubt. In a 5 day criminal trial, that DA presented evidence, but moreover, he sought to invoke the jurors' emotions. In closing arguments, Attorney Chris Van Wagner successfully helped the jury separate fact from fiction and look to the true evidence of the case before them. The jury unanimously voted to acquit on all charges.
