Van Wagner Named To Madison’s Best

VanWagnerChris4x6.jpgMADISON WI. Celebrating Legal Excellence is pleased to announce that Attorney Christopher T. Van Wagner, founding partner at the Madison, Wisconsin based criminal and drunk driving defense firm of Van Wagner & Wood, S.C. was voted as one of Madison’s Best Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Attorney Chris Van Wagner has been selected by his peers as one of Madison’s Best Criminal Defense Lawyers in every semi-annual survey since Madison Magazine’s inception of the best list in 2001. This year, he is one of only three criminal defense lawyers to make the list.

Attorney Christopher T. Van Wagner has held Martindale Hubbell’s “AV-rating” for Eminent Lawyers by peer review since 1994. He is a three time recipient of the Martin Hanson Advocate’s Prize, a statewide honor bestowed upon him for numerous homicide acquittals, and a repeat Super Lawyers™ honoree as the result of rigorous research conducted by Law & Politics™ for the best lawyers with high ethical standards.

In practice since 1981, Attorney Van Wagner’s trial record evidences a very impressive history of acquittals while defending private clients against charges brought by state and federal governments. There is his stellar ten year track record with jury trials in sexual assault cases, a remarkable dismissal in a case involving delivery of drugs causing death, a shocking acquittal in a murder case trying his client who had confessed to the crime, and an amazing victory in an attempted murder case that earned him the “Warrior of the Year” award.

As one of 11 children born to a middle-class New Jersey family, Christopher Van Wagner studied law at an Ivy League law school (Cornell Law School, 1981, Law Review Editor), and then clerked for a federal district judge (The Honorable Dick Debevoise, D.N.J., 1981-1982). He developed his solid jury trial skills while trying more than 50 felony jury trials to verdict as a state prosecutor (Trenton, New Jersey), and his boardroom manners while serving Fortune 500 clients at a world-renowned Chicago-based corporate law firm (Mayers Brown, La Salle Street, Chicago, Illinois).

In 1991, Attorney Van Wagner accepted a federal prosecutor position (U.S. Assistant Attorney, Madison, Wisconsin), and in a very short time had tried numerous federal conspiracy cases to verdict before entering private practice and founding Van Wagner & Wood, S.C.

Since 1994, Attorney Van Wagner has devoted his professional time and energies to defending people accused of criminal or drunk driving offenses by Wisconsin state and federal governments, mentoring new lawyers, lecturing on the critical importance of developing winning and creative defense strategies, and helping the public understand the criminal justice system. He is a frequent legal analyst and trial commentator to local media, such as C3K and ABC Channel 27, as well as national networks including Court TV (Tru TV), the Dan Abrams Report on MSNBC, The Today Show, Good Morning America and ABC News.
