According to Super Lawyers, their selection process begins with a statewide survey of lawyers, asking lawyers to nominate the best attorneys they've personally observed in action including those in private practice, as well as public defenders and in-house counsel. Super Lawyers states that attorneys may nominate themselves, but their self nomination will only count if another is made from outside the firm. They provide that their process includes evaluation of the pool for verdicts and settlements, experience, position, pro bono service, education background, and other outstanding achievements, which is followed by peer evaluations by practice areas. They explain that firms are grouped by size and primary practice focuses, with only 5 percent of the top lawyers selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers. Before the announcement are made, all lawyers' credentials are checked with the local licensing authority and to ensure that no lawyer has any disciplinary or other negative factors.
